Back to school - the knitwear edit

Can you believe we're already half-way through September? I mean, I know it happens every.single.year at around this time, but still. Where has the year (of all years) gone? While the end of summer is never something to cheer about, the beginning of autumn, is well, the beginning of something new. This year may be a little different than normal, but that doesn't mean we can't embrace everything that is good about this time of year.

New Uniform

While the weather hasn't changed that much from 'summer' - hot, hot, hot at the moment! - we are definitely edging into new season territory, which means it's time to think about your new 'uniform'. Our lives are a little different this year, with things like 'Zoom meetings' and working from home to factor in alongside the normal school run/work wear/meetings attire. As usual, I am all about style with comfort, meaning that everything you wear should feel as good as it looks. In this first post I'm focusing on that Autumn staple -  knitwear, whilst in weeks to come I'll look at dresses, tops and bags. They're all online (with more arriving regularly), but lets start with the warm stuff....

A Great Knit and a skirt

Covid or no-Covid, it is the season of the knit, and there's always room in my wardrobe for one or two more. Whether you go chunky or slim-line is up to you. Both look good and feel great. The key to looking contemporary is to dress  high/low - so tuck a chunkier knit into a slinky skirt with trainers, and you'll look (and feel amazing). Or wear a sequin knit with your old jeans. You don't need to go out and splurge on a whole new wardrobe, you just need to wear your pieces in different ways and you'll feel like they're new all over again.

A Subtle Statement Knit

A Subtle Statement Knit is one that people will see and go 'ooh nice jumper'. It doesn't scream 'look at me' or make you feel self-conscious, but it will look good and garner subtly admiring glances. It's basically a winner. Think a flattering shape and little details such as shimmering stars or a lightning bolt. Anything celestial is always a good idea. Or go for a subtle stripe down the back, like these beautiful jumpers from Luella. Or a subtle statement colour like this rust orange. Wear with jeans or joggers by day or with a skirt if you're looking to be a bit smarter. There's always room for one of these in your wardrobe.

Turn Heads

Of course, there's nothing wrong with turning heads in a jumper or cardi that looks and feels amazing. My Rebel Rebel jumpers have been a bit hit this season and will look SO good as temperatures fall with jeans and ankle boots. And how about this new cardigan? It looks a lot like the designer ones from Hayley Menzies, but at a fraction of a price. I will definitely be keeping one for myself.....
